Church Anniversary

«. The Primitive Methodist congregation at Stanway celebrated their second anniversary, on the 4th instant, by holding a very successful service. Most of the provisions were given by members of the congregation and their friends, so that the financial proceeds were nearly all • profit. Although rain 101 l all t^e afternoon until 5 o'clock, fully 120 sa'. down to join in the attack made upon the goods that filled the tables. Willing workers j of both sexes efficiently presided over; the operations, leaving nothing reasonable j to be desired. The interwl between the j tea and public meeting was used by the young people "on pleasure bent," for freely indulging in outside games. The ineetine which commenced about 7.30 was addressed by Rev J. Clover, Messrs G. Adams, H. Curran, and Mrs Richardson. Good selections ' from Sankey's hymns were rendered by the choir in a creditable manner. Mr A. Harris assumed the leadership, ond Miss Crabb, of Halcombe, presided at the harmonium. Well merited votes of thanks were passed at the close of the meeting to donors, tea makers, scheol committee, and the choir. The nett result was £7 8d 9d. Only those who have an experience of holding tea meetings in a State School house have a fully knowledge of the work to be done. In this case, those forming the committee, were quite equal to the undertaking. After working hard till tiearly midnight clearing up, some of the committee came early the next mornte ing to scrub the' building out, leaving no "room for complaint from the fastidious and exacting members of the school committee.
