[PKE UNITED PBBSS ASSOCIATION.] TE KOOTI. Mr J. S. McKeneie asked whether the Native Minister would afford any information aa to the reported Tisit of Te Kooti to the East Coast. The Hon. Mr Ballnnce said that botli the late and present Government had written to Te Kooti warning him not to risit the East Coast or Wairoa districts. The present Government hstd also.written. !o Te Kooti warning him not to do anything calculated to provoke a breach of the peace, and pointing out that it was contrary to the law to go about tho country with armed followers, although,, as a (subject of the Queen, To Kooti |was entitled to protection. Ihe Hon. Mr Bal lance then read a letter, receivod on tho 24th October from Te Kooti, to the effect that he had hoard the Government disapproved of his intended visit to the East Coast. He said it was the people of Gisborne and farther op the Eftit Coast who still retained their animosity, and he added, thnt ho had oamuiunU oated the messages of tho Government to to the Wairoa people, and he would let the Government know what they i&td in reply. He had accepted this tokfrn of their respect to him, believing thai the amnesty granted by the Government! the union of the two races, and the Queen'i authority, would prorent, the reourrMfte of any evil practices. , 1 In the Council to-day, tho New Zea» iaad Land i Bill and Property Tax BUI were- read a third time ana paised. • -
