The Bunnythorpe Junction
Titosi? purclyisor's of 'hind' at Biirinytliofjie who did so on the understanding that the railway line from Napier would 3 On the Wansjanui-Aianawfttu_raifway line there will be ,um_b gratified-. to obser.Te from the Public Works Statement that the promises made so many" years nijo are' at last likely to be fulfilled. It has been mooted that an" effort' will be made, on the grounds of economy, to havo the junction at Terrace End, ami that the member for the district, Mr Mao4.utiu t k.»ill he called upon to exercise his influence towards that end. That he will do_sp.we do not know, as he 1$ not likely to sacrifice ono part of of his constituents for the benefit of another, especially when the .general good of the. whole may be affected. A movement is afoot among the settlers and landowners near Bunnythorpe to counteract atty influence which may be brought to bear on the question. For ourselves . we do not believe agitation either one way or another will cause any change to be made. The Government and. the House appear to have arrived at the very sensible conclusion that routes for new lines of railway should bo selected by men wbo are not influenced by ' local prejudices, but by those who, assisted by reliable evidence of professional experts, can j.udge impartially which route will be the best for the whole system of railways. We hope to see the junction made at Bunnythorpe as announced in the PublicWorks Statement.
