The Feilding portion of the 'Frifco mail arrived by the 8.40 train ori .Tuesday evening, and was sorted and delivered by Mr Stevens with his usual promptitude. A wedding party of seventeen, including the bride and the officiating clergyman, were poisoned at Bloomington, Illinois, America, by eating canned fruits. Throe died immediately. The list of cricketers who will accompany Shaw to Australia has undergone a somewhat important alteration. The team as it stands at present is composed as follows : — Ulyetr, Bates, Shaw, Pilling. Scotton, Shrewsbury, Flowers, Attewell, Barnos, Gunn, Maurice Reid, and J. Lillywhite. A heated term commenced in New York on 10th September with disastrous consequences. The temperature ranged from 75deg to lOOdeg. Nine deaths occurred at Bellcone Hospital on the 10th, and 25 deaths on the 11th, all from heat. Business had to be suspended in a great degree, and the street car routes were lined with dying and dead horses. At Alexandra South, Dunedin. in Vincent County, the lock up was burned down on Monday morning at 4 o'clock. There was one prisoner confined in it, a Chinaman named Ah Ferv, but when the fir^'was discovered the flames had such a hold of the building that it was impossible to rescue him, and his body was burned to a cinder. The building was ot wood and iron, and was erected twenty years ago.

The perpetrator of the abuas was a man named Keating, and very properly he was heavily fined for the offence. We are sorry to have to mention that some mischievous urchin h.as sought nnrasement by breaking tho street lamp at the corner of Manchester and Grey j streets. We would remind lovers of such " fun" that their conduct is punishable by law, and that repetitions of it may cause them an unpleasant interview with a magistrate. The Feilding Brass Band through the camera, is one of the latest productions of Mr Shailer, the well-known photograper. The members, with their respective instruments have bcea taken as a group in Swo different cabinet pictures, and also singly as cartes de visite.. Both the stylo and finish of the work reflect great credit upon the artist. Wo would draw the attention of our readers to Mr D. It. Lewers' price list, published as an "inset" in to-day's issue. The goods are of such sterling quality and the prices so low that a speedy and clearing sale may safely bo predicted. One or two slight errors occurred in Mir. Lowers' advertisement in our last issue, which have since been rectified. On both days of the Produce and Poultry Show at Bulls a goodly number of residents from Feilding visited the former township. Several of our towns people secured prizes for their exhibits, amongst them being Mr Sherwill, who took first prize for canaries and for best hon bred iri the district; . Dt Johnston also received second prize for retriever dogs. / The sheep dog contest in connection with tho produce show at Bulls on Tuesday was exceedingly interesting and amusing. One dog was very -clover and showed remarkable intelligence in getting his three sheep into a pen consisting of a few hurdles in tho middle of a large paddock. Its master merely stood still ,and gave geaonil directions, the dog juding for itself the right thing to do, and the exact time to do it, invariably with the desired result. A meeting of tho Taonui Cricket Club was held at Taonui on Saturday evening last. Mr Walter Bailey was iivthe chair and a number of new members joined the club. A working committee to consist of five members was appointed. Mr W. L. Bailey was elected president of the club, Mr J. Nix captain, and Mr F. Avery secretary and treasurer. Cricket at Taonui appears to be thriving. We eongratul.-.to our Taonui friend* on the successful formation of a local cricket club. We again call attention to thopeformanco to be given in the Town to-night by the Girola Yacht Comyany. Both the Press and the public have spoken in high praise of this talented company wherever they have appeared. We expect they will be rewarded with a good honse this erening, and have no doubt of their patrons being thoroughly, satisfied and well pleased with the entertainment. The programme for tonight embraces a comedy - drama entitled " l My Little Darling," and the screaming farce of •• The Devil's Glen." ; A gentleman in town has shown us two large photographs of those celebrated' entire horses, Musket and Patriarch.* Both photos are works of art in the photographic line, anil the nr'tisfc Has-been very successful in delineating tho muny "points" and features' of interest in both animals. The photograph of Musket— the sire of that' wonderful horse MartiniHenri — is perhaps the better picture at^ the two, giving at it does] a faithfur re- s presentation of -a noble-looking horse.
