The following reports were agreed to, and the Bills read a third time and passed: — Government Insurance Association and Public Works Amendment. The following Bills were read a second time : — Destitute Persons Act 1877 Amendment Act, West Coast Settlements, Life Assurance Policies, and Westland Education District Subdivision. j ' CENTRAL BAILWAY BEPOBT. Mr Hobbs suid if the central line were adopted it would be a direct breach' of faith, as the Taranaki line was surveyed and constructed as a main trunk line. 1 Mr Hursthouse did not see why the colony should be called upon to oonstruct a line exclusively for tourists. Mr Joyce thought the House should accept the report of the committee. Messrs, J. C. Buckland and Bruce said they would: give, a luke-warm support to the central line. i Mr Smith, pointed ont that the House had completely ignored the Napier line. . Capt. Russell suggested that the debate be' adjourned till that day six months. j M r Grigg opposed both route*, as the colony could not at 1 present afford the expenditure. , ! The debate was adjourned. '
