The Late Judge Williams

Concerning the scandal attending the death of Judge Walkins- Williams at Nottingham the London correspondent ot the *Age f writes that " the greatest efforts were made to hush the unsavory affair up. The coroner received an intimation from •a • very high quarter' that his duty only requireo. him to inquire into the caupe of death, and not into the attendant circumstances. This, however, only served to make him more minute in his researches into every detail ot the untoward catastrophe. This stand he maintained despite the protest of the jury, who on three separate occasions declared themselves fully satisfied with the facts already placed before them. The coroner, however, insisted on going into the case just as he would, he asserted, into that of 'a common ewet-p or stocking mak-r.' The daily press of London did not apparently share in the coroner* belief in the merits of publicity, as they each and all, whilst recording the Judge's death, suppressed the attendant circumstances. That default has, however, T>een rectified to the full by the ibsue of a complete resume of the revolting details in pamphlet form, t^ This has been hawked at every street ' r ' corner in London during the last few days, the cries of the vendors and the huge posters which they carry having aroused an immense demand tor the prurient brochure.
