Feilding Sports

In accordance with advertisement, the annual general meeting of persons interested in the promotion of the Feilding Athletic Sports was held in the Public Hall on Saturday evening last. A s usual, there was a good attendance, and • the town and district generally were well I represented, most of the old identities of the sports being present. After the Town Band bad played on* or two lively airs, the Mayor, Mr Sher--1 will, chairman of the general committee, was Toted to the chair, and commenced by a few suitable, remarks in reference to the popularity in the colony generally of the Feilding Athletic Sports. He then read the minutes of the previous general meeting, and a resolution was passed, on the motion of Dr Johnston, seconded by Mr Bray, That they be adopted. The Chairman then read tike-UDW^T balance-sheet, of which the following is an abstract : — Total receipts, £195 6s 3d ; total expenditure. £193 108 6d, leaving a balance lin hand of £1 15s 9d. The assets, however, included £5 3s of unpaid subscript tions, most of which, the Chairman said, would prohably be collected. . .. ' Mr P. Bartholomew proposed, That the annual sports be held on Boxing Day as usuaL Seconded by Mr T. Evans and, carried unanimously. Dr Johnston moved. Thai Mr E. Goodbehere be re-elected secretary. Mr Goodbehere said he would much rather some one else be appointed. Air P. Thomson seconded the proposition that he be appointed. Dr Johnston spoke in support of the motion, and hoped Mr Goodbehere would consent to act, as he had been a very efficient officer, and he did not think it desirable to have any change. Mr Kirton nominated Mr Charles Bray, jun., on the supposition that Mr Goodbehere was not willing to act. Mr Goodbehere having consented to act for another year. Mr Kirton withdrew his proposition and the resolution for Mr Goodbehere' s election was carried unani* mously. ' . ' ■ ( >n the motion of Mr Kirton, seconded by Mr P. Thomson, Mr Fitzherbert was again unanimously elected treasurer. The following gentlemen were elected the general committee : — Messrs Macarthur, Shei will, Lethbndge, H. Worsfold, Downes, William Bailey, Walter Bailey, C. Bray, sen., Rutherford, and Sandilands. The following were appointed the stewards: — Messrs Kirton, P.Bartholomew, Booth, Jackson,- T. Evans, Curtis, P. Thomson, Haybittle, Bilderbeck, Brooker, W. Reid, and Aitken. The Chairman invited those present who were desirous to assist the funds to come forward and put down their names as subscribers. A good number did so, and the total of the pro nises amounted to £22 6s, which, however, is sure to be considerably augmented by the subscriptions of persons who were not present. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the meeting.
