The North Island Railway Committee
CONCLUSION OP THE ENQUIRY. [Wanganui Hebald's cobbespoxdent.] Wellington, Oct. 3. All the evidence is now understood to be taken, and it is jiist possible, though not possible, that the report of the Committee may be brought down this evening. From what I can learn, the balance of evidence is in hivor of the central line, botli as regards the nature of the country to be opened up, and from an engineering point of view. I understand that four members of the committee nre in favour of the centr 1 route, and three in favour of the Stratfor.l route, but I think I may say with a decree of confidence that the committee will not absolutely recommend the adoption of either route, hut will bring up a half and half *ort of report, calculated to please supporters of both routes, and then leave Ihe main question to be settled by the House.
