In his speech delivered at Glasgow to-day the Marquis of Salisbury declared that he was in no way prepared to yield to the Government on the question of reform of the franchise. Intelligence is to hand from the we-,t coast of Africa that Spece {sic), an Englishman, lessee of the Guano Islands, in the Bay of Angra, Pcquena. has been warned off them by representatives of Luderwiz and Co., Bremen, who claim possession of the islands and the district of Angra, Pequena. It is reported that Prince Bismarck has arranged a league to protect the unoccupied territory of the world from English aggression. Alderman George Swan Nottage is the Lord Mayor elect. Mr Langton, in a letter to the Times, complains of the iniquitious native labor ordinance in operation in Fiji. The frozen meat ex Coptic is selling at 6d per lb. Received October 4, 055 a.m. Caiho, October 3. General Gordon has started from Aisouan for Wady Haifa. Earl Northbrook will leave Cairo on Monday next for Upper Egypt. London, October 3. The Times this morning states that Lord Wolseley has been re-called from Egypt, and that General Stephen will take command of the expedition to Soudan. Received October 4, 11 a.m. London, October 3. The statement made by to-day's Times that. Wolsley had been recalled from Egypt is now officially stated to be devoid of foundation. Intelligence is to hand from Cairo that news has reached there that Berber has been recaptured from the rebels by the troops dispatched from Khartoum by Gordon.
