The Mining Companies Act 1872 Amendment Bill, Employment of Females and Others Act Amendment Bill, Anatomy Amendment Bill, Bills of Exchange Act Amendment Bill, and Affirmation in Lieu of Oaths Extension Bill were read a third time and passed. The Criminal Procedure Bill was read a second time. On the Native Lands Bill coming np for its second reading, the Native Minister objected to it, and Wi Pere contended that if it became law all the native lands would soon pass away from them. The debate was adjourned till the Bth October ! A long discussion took place on the Gold Duty Abolition Bill. Mr BalUnce moved an amendment that the bill shall j not come into operation till by Order-in-Council of the Governor. The amendment was carried, and the bill reported with amendments. Friday. ! The whole evening sitting was occupied in debating the second reading of the Wesport Harbor Board Bill. The general tenor of the debate was, that while recognising the work as one of colonial interest, the House had to consider the advisability of the Government undertaking this work, or handing it over to a Board. Several speakers were in favor of the whole question being relegated to a committee to report on. At midnight the second reading was carried on the voices and Sir Julius Yogel moved that it now be referred to a committee to report on Tuesday, this was also carried. The House adjourned at 12.30.
