Feilding Sports on Boxing Day

A meeting of those interested in the Boxing Day Sports for this year is called by H. L. Sherwill, Esq., chairman of committee, to be held in the Public Hall on Saturday evening next, at 8 o'clock. We desire to impress on every resident who is desirous of keeping up the character of our sports to put in an appearance, and lend every assistance which is in his power. The main objects are to provide such an attractive programme as will tempt visitors and competitors irom all parts of the colony, and keep our own people from wandering. That we have succeeded in so doing in the past is well known, but in the face of counter attractions held out bj other places we mast spare neither money nor persona) exertions to secure a good attendance of competitors by offering good prizes. That we are almost certain to have a good attendance of spectators cannot be denied. The arrangements of the Sports Committee hold out a direct inducement to parents to be present with all the members of their families. The fact of no intoxicants being allowed on the ground insures good order, with the utter absenoe of any conduct which could offend the most fastidious. The night chosen for tbe meeting is inconvenient for business people, but they can send in their names with the amount of their subscriptions under cover to the chairman. Verb. sap.
