Wanganui Supreme Court

Satpbdat, Sept. 27th, 1884.

Adsett v Manchester Highway Board. This was a claim for £2500 for compensation on account of damages to plaintiff's bush caused by a tire alleged to have been kindled by an employe^ of the board. Mr Hutchison appeared for the plaintiff and Mr Barnicoat, with him Mr Baker, for defenda ts. A large number of witnesses were called on both sides, aud the court was occupied till 6 p.m., hearing the evidence. After counsel had addressed the jury at some length the judge summed up and the jury retired at 8.30 o'clock. At a quarter to 12 o'clock they had not agreed, and were discharged. The case will consequently be tried again at the next sittings of the court.
