Feilding Benevolent Society
EKPOET OF THB EXECUTIVE COMMITTF.E-
Ladies aad Gentlemen— The first report for three years past requires to be explained. Firstly, that the Executive Committee had such a limited sum to expend ; secondly, that the amount of distress requiring aid from tke Society was equally limited; and thirdly, the impossibility of getting a meeting of more than a few members, unless some special effort ■was required. The sura of £21 7s 3d has been received as subscriptions since the last audit in August, 1881, and the amount expended £26 6s lid, thus showing a debit of £4 19s 2d accounts unpaid, to meet which a sum of £2 7s lid is in the lion, treasurer's hands, thus £2 lis 3<l is really -our only liability. The Society have had various cases presented for their consideration, and in a number of instances legal steps were taken by your committee, and the relatives of the distressed persons compelled to do their duty by supporting them. Your committee can state with truth that in no case, eitner reported by the police or others, or cases coming under the members personal notice, has idief been withheld one hour. The only question they have asked is 4t What is most needed ?" The Society does not publish the names of the recipients of its help, the object being to help in the hour of need and thereby prevent persons becoming pauperised through illness or other circumstances over which they have no control. The Society has helped persons of all creeds and colors during the past three years, as it has done since its foundation on 21st June, 1876. Your committee beg to express their gratitude to the ladies who so ably assisted them to carry on the good work.
Edward H. Wright, Hon, Sec, Feilding, September 13th, 1834.
