Service of Song

Last evening a tea meeting and service of s mg were heid in tiie TVolcyan Church. The viands were supplied by the ladies ot the congregation, and were ali of excellent qu-ility. The object of the movement was to assist the church funds. The subject of the service of song was

" Billy Bray" as he was popular!}' called. Mr William Bray was horn in the little village of Twelvcheads, near Truro, Cornwall in 1791, and died about 16 years ago. He was for many years an extraordinarily successful lay preacher :imong that body of Methodists knnun as "Bible Christians." So remarkable man was he in many ways that it is said that from one end of Cornwall to the other, no name is more familiar tlian that of Jjiliy Bray. A sketch of his life has been written and has a very large circulation, and the story of him has been compiled as a musically illustrated service in both notations, and forms a very entertaining "service ol song," selection'; from wii 'eh were given last evening. The reading part was very effectively done by Mr Kellow, and, the singing was rendered in a very pleasing style by the choir. We are sorry to say the attendance at both the tea and the service was not nearly so',greatas theVffort which had been put forth by the promoters deserved, but those present could not fail lo he satisfied and pleased with what only wanted a larger patronage to have made a most successful affair.
