GOD DOES SAVE DRUNKARDS.
BY A WHITECHAPKL BIED.
Tune — John Brown's Body Lies Mould-
ering in the Grave.
[ ADVERTI SEMENT.] For many years I was a servant and slave to the drink. It crippled all my faculties, and caused me dowu to sink ; No matter what I tried to do, the end was just the shame, And brought me grief and shame. CHOBUS. T found that God could save the drunkard ! I found that God could save the drunkard! From drink He sets him free. My heart grows sad and sorrowful, and tears come to my eyes, When I look back and see the pit from whence God bade me ri«e ; But then a small voice said to me, ' My son, be of good cheer, With me you've nauirht to fear.' I've oft come back to my home and struck my patient wife, I've acted like a bntal sot, and sworn to take her life ; My children were afraid of me, and fled when I draw near, My neighbours all did sneer. I've risen in the morning with dry tongue and aching head ; . I've folt the pangs of keen remorse, and wished that I was dead ; And then to drown my feelings to the ' pub* I'd go again, For the cause of all my pain. But now, praise God, there is a change; I heard of Jesus' love ; I heard that he, to set me free, descended i from above ; I am no longer captive led with chains and irons strong ; Bat right has conquered wrong.
