The election of three Councillors to fill the vacancies v ma<Je by the retirement of Crs- and J. C. Thompsoja teiofc place on Thursday last. Prom iH&- beginning very little interest was?evinced by either the candidates pi: th% biggesses. The aspirants for officWfatfwef^ominated on the day appointed^ forjdiat purpose ! were Messrs Arnott, Gichard, Koe, Nicholas, J. C Jffier Thomson. Owing to an informality, similar in each case, Me'ssfs .Arbbtt and Peter Thomson withdrew their • names.
