The wool market continues firm. The catalogue to-day comprised 10,300 bales. The yacht Mignonette was the property of Mr Henry Want, and was swamped by a heavy sea. The boat with the : occupants drifted about twenty-four days wi'h but little provisions, and scarcely any water. The Monteruma, which picked up the survivors, conveyed them to Falmouth. Mr Trevelyan, Chief Secretary for Ireland, addressed an immense meeting at Glasgow on the Franchise Bill. . Germany has made f urtherannexations on'the West Coast of _Africa, thus hemming in Walvisch Bay, recently annexed by the Cape Government. The Chinese officials at Foochow have notified that war has been declared between France and China, and that Shanghai will be treated as a neutral port. Sept. 9. The survivors from the yacht Mignonettee, were brought up at the central police court to-day and remanded, pending the decision of the Treasury as 1 to the necessity of prosecuting them for the murder of the boy who was killed and eaten. Wabsaw, Sept. 9. The Czar and Czarina drove in an open carriage without any escort through the principal streets of this city to-day. Their Majesties were everywhere received with loyal demonstrations. The Czar has been warmly received at Warsaw, and loyal demonstrations have been organised in honour of his Majesty's visit to that city. Received Sept. 11, 11.12 a.m. London, Sept. 10. Arrived, at Plymouth, the 2iew Zealand Shipping Company's steamship Ruapehu, from Lyttelton, July 26. Tenders are invited up to the 18th inst. for a loan ot £258,000 for the city of Sydney, and bearing interest at the rate of 5 per cent. St. Leger was run to-day and resulted as follows: — The Lambkin I, Sandiway 2, Superba 3. It is authoritatively announced that Earl Dufferin will succeed the Marquis of Ripon as Viceroy and Governor-Gen-eral -f India. Cairo, August 30. Earl Northbrook waited upon the Khedive to-day and presented his ere- j dentials as- British Commissioner. Thej Khedive received His Lordship -very cordially. Hono Kong, Sept. 10. Operations are now proceeding on the part of the Chinese with the view of effectually blocking the bar at the entrance of the Woosung river. Pabis, Sept. 10. A newspaper, Le National, publishes a statement to-day to the effect that the Government contemplates issuing a formal declaration of war against China, and of further' convoking the French Chambers to obtain a sanction for the prosecution of important operations in China. ■;■■'■■ j S_N Francisco, September 9.
