The Australians cricketers commenced a match to-day against eleven of North of, England at Nottingham. The following are the names of the Home team : — Shrewsbury (captain), Attewell, Barlow, Barnes, Bates, Flowers, Gunn, Peate, Scotton, Selby, and Sherwin. There was a good attendance of spectators, although heavy rain fell during the day, and, owing to the recent wet weather, the wicket was somewhat heavy. The Home team went in first and were all disposed of for 91, Flowers, c, 26, being the only one who reached double figures When the stumps were drawn for the day the Australians had lost eight wickets for 95. Bonnor, b, 38, was the highest scorer.

Sept. 2. The first innings of the visitors closed for a total of 105 runs. The Home team then went in, and remained at the wickets all day tor their second innings, which closed for 255 runs. The Australians now require to make 242 runs to win the match.
