FLOODS AT BULLS.
FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.
BULLS, September 3.
The heavy downpour of rain yesterday and last evening has done an immense amount of damage throughout the district, and every creek, and all level ground, is flooded.; In High street the drain sewer burst opposite the Post Office. The whole of the water table on the north side of that street has been more or less destroyed, and a large gang of men have been busy all day trying to make everything safe. It is estimated that about £50 will be needed to put the street in thorough repair. The flood water was about two feet deep at Dalziell's corner, caused through the drain becoming choked. Mr Broughton was up nearly ail night keeping the drain
opposite that part of the town clear. The Tutaenui overflowed its banks near the Turakina Main Road Bridge, and flowed down past St. Andrew's Church, completely submerging the school grounds. On the Scott's Ferry road the Tutaenui was within a few inches of the floor of the bridge, and it is expected every moment that it must go. The loss to the sheep farmers is very great. The Rangitikei is now within a foot of the highest point reached by the great flood of '82. So far no fatal accidents have been reported, though many narrow escapes while recovering stock are chronicled. I hear that a portion of the CarnarvonSandon Tramway has been washed away This line was only formally opened yesterday.
