Feilding Borough Council

An ordinary meeting of the Council, was held on Thursday evening last. Present — the Mayor and Councillors Rutherford, Goodbehere, Richardson, Worsfold, Carthew, and Fowles. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. The monthly report of the Inßpector of .Nuisances, and of the Poundkeeper were read. Tho latter showed the number of animals impounded 87 head, the amount received £7 16s and the amount to hand orer to the Council £4 7s Resolved, That the relief to the Wells family be continued for three weeks from date. - , It was reported that instructions had been given to the roadman to attoadhto the matter of the drainage of Mr Hammond's property in West street. The petition of ratepayers. on^Pharazyn's line and suburban road was again discussed. • . :.• _ -. A petition from Messrs F. Rink .and A. Hubner was read praying the Counoil to.form and metal the road near the railway line at Makino. With reference to the two petitions it was resolved, That the Town Clerk be instructed to inform the petitioners that the Council regrets the present condition of the funds of the Borough- will pot justify the works being done. The Mayor reported that, in accordance with instructions from the Council, he had written to the various local governing bodies re assistance towards the Cemetery, and then read copy of the letter. He said he had only received a reply from the M ana waiu Road Board, which was then read. This letter was to the effect that the Board's finances would not warrant '• any expenditure in the way referred to. The Mayor said he believed the Manchester Road Board had passed some resolution on the subject; but as yet he had received no official reply, and no doubt the Kiwitea Board would consider the matter at its next meeting on Monday* . The following tenders for lighting the sreet lamps for one year were then opened: —Charles Wickham, £1 18s 4d per month; J. S.Fowlesj£2permonth'; Jas. Morris: fUs^Se* week. . .... The tender of C. Wickham was accepted. >■-.'■ After a discussion it was resolved on the motipn of Cr Rutherford seconded by Cr Worsfold, That tenders be called for the formation and metalling of Derby street from Eimbolton road to the Makino stream. The Mayor pointed out that it would be desirable for. the next meeting to take place shortly before ( the election to fill ihe vacancies which would be caused by the retirement in regular order of three members of the Conncil, and he would suggest that the next meeting be held- on Thursday September 4th. A resolution accordingly was then passed, and after the reading of the rough, minutes the Council adjourned.
