W .Waring Taylor's Bankruptcy
I ♦ EXAMINATION OF THE BANKfiUPT. [PEE UNITED PBKB3 ASSOCIATION.] "Wkllington, This Day. At (he sitting of the Bankruptcy Court to-day W. Waring Taylor was sworn nnd examined by Mr Stewart, of Dunedin, whose questions had reference to the bankrupt's dealings with Mr May's estate, and were directed with the view of proving a fraudulent breach of trust TUe bankrupt said he had no doubt he had received the letter (produced), dated 16th June, 1881. from Mr James May, deceased, in which he was authorised to draw certain dividends from the Bank of New Zealand on Mr James May's behalf, and invest the money in first-class security. He had never made any distinction between trust funds and ordinary accounts in his books. He never invested the dividend from the Bank of New Zealand. He admitted that various entries relating to mortgages were " fictitious," and said there was no necessity to go into details. M r Edwards interrogated the bankrupt with regard to the transactions with Mrs Moorhouse, The bankrupt admitted that several mortgages referred to in connection with those transactions were to some extent " fictitious." Mr Stewart afterwards continued his examination of debtor with reference to Mr May's estate, particularly with regard to th« sale of the Bank of Now Zealand shares left to various legatees by the late Mr May. Further public examination was subsequently adjourned for three weeks.
