FRANCE ANO CHINA BOMBARDMENT OF KELUNG. eeuteb's tklegbams. London, August 10. I The reported seizure of Kelung by Ad tiiral Courbett, the truth of which was denied in the House of Commons by Lord Edmund Fitzmaurice, is now fully confirmed. The proposed indemnity has now been reduced in amount to 80,000,000 frances. Hong Kong, August 10. The town of Kelung, in Formosa, was bombarded by the French fleet for one hour, when the Chinese withdrew, and a force was landed to occupy the place. i Admiral Courbett, with a portion of his fleet, is still at Foochow, and four French warships ore now before Woosung a port j near Shanghai. ' Received August 12, 1 a.m. London, August 11. Telegrams have been received from Bohia, stating that the ship Closeburn, homeward bound, from Lyttelton, May 27, put in there to repair damage received during a heavy gale, purt of the bulwarks and stanchions having been carried away ! and the cargo partly damaged. Hong Kong, August 10. The French suffered no loss during the bombardment and occupation of Kelung. The loss of the Chinese is not known. Cairo, August 10. Active preparations are now being made here for the expedition into the Soudan by way of the N ile Valley. A combined force of 4000 British and Egyptian troops will be employed.
