Arrived, this afternoon, the Union steamship Rotomahana, from Auckland. if or ty- seven horses have accepted for the Hawkesbury Cup Handicap, fortyfive for the County Purse, and forty two for the Metropolitan Stakes. The acceptances are considered very satisfactory. Melboubne, August 4. The following scratching* for the Cup have been posted to-day :-Bone Fortune, £?hloe, Elocution, Forward, Hawthorn, Marshal, JSTey, Metal, Napies, Sheila, Sheet Anchor, Stafford. Adelaide, This Day. Arrived, this morning, the steamship Sorata, from Plymouth. Melbotjbne, August 2 A report has reached here that smallpox has made its appearance at Bordertown, on the boundary line between Victoria and South Australia, where two police troopers have been attacked with a disease which' is believed to be tru« variola. Further cases of emall-pox are also reported in the suburbs of this city.
