" King" Tawhaio and the members of the Maori embassy, will hare audience of Her Majesty the Queen to-day at Osborne, j The Daily News, in its issue this morning, publishes a telegram stating that a serious risiug has occurred in the south west provinces of Yemen, on the I Red Sea coast of Arabia. The Arab insurgents declaied themselves followers lof the Mahdi, and mustered in great ■ force. Sava, the capital of the province, I yielded to them, and they also captured I several towns and villages. The governor of the province found himself eutirely unable to cope with the insurgents. The ! porto has despatched a force of 10,000 j troops to restore order. j The race tor the Goodwood was run to-day. It resulted as follows : — St. Simson, 1 ; Ossian, 2 ; Friday, 3. The cargo of frozen mutton on board the ship Wellington from Lyttelton has been examined and found to be in poor i condition, the carcasses uot having been I properly prepared for shipment. I The area of cholera in France is spreading, but the disease is less intense. I St. Petebsbttbg, July 31 . Cholera of a mild type has appeared -in this city and cases have also occurred at Karkoff in southern Russia. Shanghai July. "l The amount which it is reported China is prepared to pay as indemnity to France is £L500.000, and not five million sterling as stated iu the last telegram.
