OROUA VICTOBTOUS. < The match between these two teams . was played at Palmerston -last Saturday, ' and resulted, after a 'hard game, in a wfh '* for Oroua by one goal (five' points) to »-• rr-7-..yA^ ■<■ .-..-■ 0 — i!.> /_u A* - i It was decided to play the game in two spells of '4s minutes, aiuL.Thomsp^the Oroua, captain, having, won; the., toss, t elected to play with the wind at his back. '■■ A '■ little ' before three the game w4i started by Gray kicking off for Wangs- * nui, and the play at once became very fast. The Oroua forwards gradually worked the ball towards the Wanganui quarters, and, with an occasional ran by . the backs, brought the leather in close proximity to their goal, but they managed to get. the ball a~ray and brought the play once more to the centre of the ; ground. The Oroua forward* again took the ball, and with a splendid rush carried it right down the field. A scrimmage was formed in front of the Wanganui goal, and the ball being passed back to Thomson, he immediately placed it over the bar, thus making first score for Oroua. Tbe Wanganui men bow played up better and a determined rush resulted in OroOa being forced down, hut no score was made. Puriag this spell Oroua had decidedly the best of the game, their, forwords working better together than their | opponents. After a short interval ends were changed and the game again started by Pratt kicking off for. Oroua. The forwards following' up well, kept the game in the Wanganui quarters, but although they were forced down several times, no score resulted. As the game proceeded the Wanganui men seemed to improve, and the ball was carried all ov^r the field in a very short space of time. They made .. several good rushes- but were unable tft\W get through the Oroua backs. Templar was conspicuous at this stage r by. peaking. . some capital runs Slong the touch line, always gaining, a good deal of ground. Each team now made' strenuous^ efforts to 1 score and some really splendid work was done amongst ".the fogwardsY. but they were, too evenly matched to give a chance andHme was called with thei ball lUthe centre of the field. .Ai .< . >.
