The spread of cholera in France it causing great alarm on the Continent. - Mr Labouchere, editor of London Truth, is sued by Bishop, the American mind reader, for libel. Truth asserted _ t . that Bishop was a common swindler, and had robbed the Victoria Hospital of £300. the proceeds' of one of his enter- ■ tainments, ostensibly for the benefit of the hospital. The report says many members ot the aristocracy are assisting Bishop with money and advice. Lord Edward Fitztnaurice announced in the House of Commons on July 4th that the whereabouts of Sheldon, an Englishman captured by outlaws in Kansas, and held for ransom, bad not been discovered. The Philadelphia cricketers won the game with the gentlemen from Leicester in London on June 24th. The Leicester team scored 152 in two innings, and the Philadelphians 260 in one i> nings. A small pox epidemic was reported on June 23rd as spreading in London. There are already 1700 cases. The daily reports showed tie rate to be 75 per week. A young man was arrested at Ems with a dagger and knife in his possession. It is believed he had designs on the Emperor's life. The London World of July Ist says the Foi tescqe- Garmoy le breach of promise case was withdrawn. Earl Cairns, Lord Garmoyle's father paid plaintiff heavy consideration. Miss Fortescue (Fanney) denies this, and says she ftever will compromise. "I have been sufficiently compromised already by Lord dairns's family to allow them to further embarrass me by inducing me to stop this aotion for money. I have brought a suit for £40,000. My reputation requires vindication, which a trial will give me.
