A man named Gardner, residing at Kaitoke, had a narrow escape of being killed yesterday evening. After registering his rote he imbibed rather freely, and proceeded along the railway line. After going a short distance, he sat down Jon the rails and went to sleep. On the evening train approaching, the engine driver noticed an object in front, anu slackened speed. The cowcatcher caught the man, and inflicted a nasty scaly wound. Gardner is now recovering. At the Divorce Court to-day a deoree absolute was granted in the case of Harris v Harris. Chbistchubch, July 23. Two New Bouth Wales' breeders of stock have promised to act as judges at the next Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association show. As a proof of the good order at yesterday's election there was not one case of breach of the| peace or drunkenness at the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day. Dcnedin. This Day. Some thirty informal votes were given at the Dunedin Central election, but a second scrutiny has not altered the result in a majority of three for Mr Bradshaw.
