In " consequence' of the collapse of Middlesex in tho recent match with the Australian cricketer.^ several alterations have been made in tl.e team chosen to i represent All England 'in ihe match against the Australians which commenced at Lords on Monday, every en- i deavour being .made to materially strengthen the representative English eleven. Recent rain is improving the prospects of the hop crop. Michael Davitt has postponed his projected tour to the Australian colonies until after the general elections. Wilh regard to the postal difficulties, it is announced that New Zealand threatens to impose a sixpenny rate on letters forwarded via Brindisi route, unless specially addressed. Mr Fawcett Post-master-General, declines to detain letters for Australia so as to oblige the Sau Francisco mail service. Seventeen of the crew of tbe exploring vessel Greeley died from starvation. The survivors subsisted on licheus, and the only clothing they bad was sealskins. During the past fortnight twenty-four of Australian wheat have been sold. The average price realised has been 38s 6d.; Ten grain ships are how waiting orders off the coast. One hundred arreits have been made in connetion with the recent dynamite plot at Warsaw to injure the Czar. Paris, July 19. A renewal of the panic has occurred at Toulon, owing to the continued spread of cholera, and the Government officials are rejroned to be deserting their posts. A further slight outbreak of cholera has occurred here and at Aries, and the mines in the neighbourhood of Marseilles. : -Hokg Kong, July 13. The parleying regarding the French claim for an indemnity on account of the Langson affair is still proceeding. It is considered that the prospects of an agreement being arrived at are improving.
