The Election .

— '■ • — — - - ■■ As we go to -press the interest of tbe election is very keen.. The . supporters of both candidates are polling ato a man, and no elector on the roll is likely to be allowed the contemptible privilege of voting for neither candidate. Oue legal gentleman who is " not altogether unconnected with" native affairs, and whose frequent defeats as a candidate for a seat in the House bave taught him all tbat it is possible to know on the modes of influencing the Maori vote, has been particularly active on behalf of the gentleman who is going to be tbe defeated candidate. The voting in Feilding for Mr Macarthur is almost unanimous, and the friends of Mr Fraser will find this evening that even the Maori vote will nothave;~belped them much. The music ef Mr? Daw's band attracted a number of, people to hear the sweet strains. A number -of traps driving about laden witb enthusiastic electors, and horsemen "bloody, with spurring; fiery hot with haste," all tend to make Feilding more lively- than we have seen it for many days. Ail who.- really have the interests of the Manawatu at heart have J ' • ' K - ° Votei> for Macarthur.

["" Extras " will be issued from," the Star office this evening! giving the results of the elections "for the follow electorates, viz. — Manawatu, Rangitikei,'' Foxton, Wanganui, and Wellington.! • '■ •
