The Money Market
The Sydney Morning Herald in its lust monetary review, says; — "Since our last there has been a perceptibly easier feeling in the money market. Some agitation, having its origin in Melbourne, where the bank figures show a stronger position than those of this colony, has brought about a meeting of bank managers in this colony, and it has been resolved to reduce the deposit rate by £ per cent, for the respective periods. This arrangement, however, is subject to the aaoption ofa similar course in Melbourne. Peadingthe consideration of the matter there, the old rates continue, namely, 4 per cent, for three months 5 per cent, for six months, and 6 per cent. for twelve months, .'here is Uttle doubt that the Melbourne hanks will agree to reduce the rateß,and after this it is anticipated the discount rates will also be lowered iv both colonies."
