In the House of Commons last night it j was announced that the London G'»vernI ment Bill and other measures introduced ' by Ministers which were likely to lead to ' a lengthy debate, will be dropped for the ; present session. The Deceased Wife's Sisters Bill, which was recently intro- » duced in the House of Lords, has now . been withdrawn. The committee of financial experts which was appointed by the European Conference to consider the proposals of the British Government in regard t> ; Egyptian financial questions have held j frequent sittings during the past few i days. The committee is expected to j complete its deliberations next week, when • the conference will re assemble for the I purpose of the discussion of the report of ! the experts. Ministerial and Opposition caucuses are now actively organising for the purpose of agitating respectively for and against the reform of the franchise. The cricket match, Australians v V .U England, commenced in Manchester late this afterno >n, the weather having moderated. The wicket was very heavy owing to the rain. The Englishmen went 'first to the wickets, and when the stumps were drawn their score stood at twenty-six. with three wickets down. Latest news from Toulon states that the epidemic is somewhat abating, the mortality yesterday having only amounted to twelve cases, which is below the recent daily average. LOUDON. July 10. The Marquis of Normanby was entertained last night at a banquet by the le-iding Anglo- Australians in L'-ndon. Among the guests were Lord Klmberley, the Marquis of Lome, and Sir Michael Hicks-Beach. Mr Gladstone will in the House of Commons to-day make a statement as to the intentions of the Government in view of the rejection of the Franchise Bill by the House of Lords. A belief is generally current and hourly being strengthened that the Government have decided to introduce the measure afresh at a special session to be held in Autumn. It has transpired that at the meeting of members of the Liberal party to-day, Mr Gladstone announced that the present session would end shortly, and Parliament would reassemble in October for the purpose of again passing the Franchise Bill through the House of Commons, and submitting ifc to the House of Lords. The. frozm meat, ex British King is realising 5d to s£d per lb. The exodus of the inhabitants of Marseilles and Paris is increasing.
