Feilding State School

«. An ordinary monthly meeting of the School Committee was held in the Foresters' Hall last evening. Present — Messrs Watts (Secretary), Kutherford, Towler, Nicholas, and Bray. In the temporary absence of the Chairman Mr Nicholas presided. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting and ot the special meeting were' read and confirmed. The Secretary reported that iu accordance with tbe Committee's instructions he had written to Mr Fry, asking him to allow himself to be nominated as a mem ber of the Education Board, and that he had consented. The Inspector's general report was read, and was on the whole very satisfactory. It stated that a gallery was wanted for the infant school. The Chairman, Mr Sherwill, now took his seat. The following correspondence was read : — Mr Bindon. the Inspector, re the entrances of teachers' absences in the log book, as reported, and saying that some explanation of the matter was due to Mrs Bedman and himself. Mr Thos. Awdry, circular letter, asktng to be nournated as a member of tbe Board. Secretary of School Board re nomination papers and alteration in the midwinter holidays. M r James Baler, asking the Committee to support his candidature as a member of the Board. The M aster's monthly report of attendance, and the entries in the log-bosk were were read. The report showed the num. ber on the books to be 283, and tho average attendance 195.5. The increase on tbe books since tbe corresponding period of 1883 was 46, and the increase ot the average attendance 21.7. Tbe Chairman reported that the result of the visit of Mr Bray and himself as a deputation from the Committee, to the executive of tbe Board in Wanganui was so far Satisfactory. Matters, the details of wh?eh he said need not be entered into, had been arranged amicably, ami it had been decided to retain both the Master and Mrs Bedman, bat that some change wou'd be made- should there again be a lack of harmony in the working of the sohool. Resolved, Tbat the Secretary make arrangements with Mrs E. Turner for cleaning the school, Ac., for six mouths. A vote of tbanks to tbe Chairman and Mr Bray for their visit to Wang*. oui, <» and the satisfactory arrangements made with the executive, was passed. , Accounts amounting to £7 19s were i passed for pay ment, and tbe Committee i then adjontned. j __ i
