That Mr Thompson's application to he allowed to use shingles on his bouse be not entertained. — Carried. Cr Loudon moved, and Cr Goodbehere seconded, That the Towa Clerk be in- ' structed to inform the Secretary of the Clifton Library, That the Conned roust decline to purchase the history of Thomas Carlyle.- -Carried. A short conversation took place on the matter of- "Mr Haggen's proposals, and it was agreed to h old the matter over till the next meeting. The Mayor, however, intimated that if tlie Council did *ot take it up be intended to call a pubiic meeting oa his own responsibility. A hst of articles needed for the , Library was subnaitled by the Librarian, and it was resolved that they be supplied. A conversation was held as to w hut vehicles plying within the Borough should be subject to the bye-laws an to licensing. The matter was brought forward in consequence of one owner of vehicles who was formerly licensed h»vm£- refused to renew his license unless all otber hired vehicles were licensed.
