DISSOLUTION OF PARLIAMENI
[PBB UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington. This Day. In the House to-day Major Atkinsor stated the Governor had granted a dissolution. He also stated that on Thursday evening he proposed to ask for Supplies for the end of August. He thought thai unless the Opposition wanted to have s financial debate Parliament would bi prorogued ou Tuesday next, and th' House immedift*t"ly after would be dissolved. He also thought that the elections, too, could be got over, and the House reassemble by the 28th August.
(PBB UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.) Gisbobne, This Day. The Supreme Court opened this morning, before Judge Gillies. In his charge to the grand jury he stated the calendar was comparatively light. He commented on the fact of natives being sufficiently civilized when able to write so well as to forge cheques, for which one native will be tried. No further election returns have yet been received. Downes, the deputy returning officer, started out on Sunday. The rivers were very much swollen, and as his horse returned wilh the saddle, but without the rider, it is feared Downes is lost. In consequence of the Supreme Court sitting the constable cannot be spared to go in search.
