Kiwitea Road Board
An ordinary meetim^of the Board was held at its office in Manchester street yesterday afternoon. Present- -Messrs Taylor (Chainrianh^axon, Williamson, and Bruce. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read: —Treasury Department, re payment of £500 on account of grant under the Roads and Bridges Construction-* Act?" Mi*W. Hunter, re transfer of his property, and change of name on rate roll ; District Survey office ; re laying off a road through section 175 ; Mr T. --Sinclair, "'re cutting a tract through the bush -from Ashurst to the Manchester Reserve; Property Tax Department, re 9660 acres of flative lands as being within the Kiwitea district. Smith, contractor for Perry and Mcßeth's lone, waited upon the Board to request an extension of time for completing his contract. Mr Bray, the Engineer, was appealed to, and expressed sympathy r . with Mr Smith's request, as if .lie work was done in wet weather it could not possibly pay him. _•:.-•. On Mr Bray's recommendation, and after discussion, an extension 'of two months was allowed for. certain portions ofthe work. t The matter of Mr Sinclair's letter was allowed -to stand over for Mr Saxopio make enquiries and report. After discussion on the matter of the letter from the District Survey Office re laying off a road through section 175 by the Board for the approval of the District Surveyor, it was resolved that the Engineer be instructed to peg off the road. Resolved, That the change bf names on rate roll as requested by Mr Hunter bo granted. | Resolved, with reference to the matter , of the correspondence from the Property Tax Department, That the rates on the 9660 acres be applied for, also information as to the valuation of the sections , recently purchased. [ A telegram was here received from Mr . Bryce, apologising for and asking leave of absence. The apology was aocepted, and the leave granted. Mr Bruce asked the Board to fell a line in continuation of the Cheltenham Cross road to the Oroua River, in order that he might erect a'permnnenffenceon his property. Resolved, That permission be granted , under., the usual conditions, viz., thatfhe cost.of the work . do, netr exceed £&i|er acre, to be paid when the wditl is m funds. ,- ".«• «.•*-•'''" V- -.n After re-consideration Jt w«s ratHtiA} That the clerk write' toiMr -Stnclair, informing him that the work referred to in his letter is already' under eonfract by the Government. - Tenders were opened' for cutting anjjt culvert work on Taonui road.
