Oroua Valley Route
In its columns of local intelligence ou Thursday last tbe Advocate says — " News has reached Marton that Mr Bochfobt completed his examination of the Oroua Valley route, and reached the Hautapu on Monday. We understand that the route was found to be utterly impracticable for a railway." The first sentence is probably correct, but the second, which states that " the route was found to be utterly impracticable for a railway," is ••* .utterly " false. We have made enquiries, and find that Mr Rochfort was able to find a splendid route, with no engineering difficulties of any consequence. The only expensive piece of work would be that of bridging tile Rangitikei River. It is a pity that our contemporary should have circulated such a report without properly examining into its trulh. In this case " the wish was the father of the thought," and any statement damaging to the Oroua Valley Route was eagerly ! accepted. '
