Election Address TO THE ELECTORS OF MANAWATU. - GENTLEMEN. — A number of the electors of the Palmerston and Feilding district have requested me to offer myself as a candidate for, the Electoral District of the Manawatu in the House of Representatives. After a month's consideration, during which time I have read the speeches of the leaders of the present Government, and 'the Opposition, and finding that they have no definite proposals to remedy the depressed condition of the colony, or a remedy to place the finances of New Zealand on a sound economical basis, I come forward with a policy, for I see they represent so many patients requiring medical assistance, Which I propose to supply in place of the experimental one, which has so completely paralyzed the colony. Ist. I propose to re-organize the Public Works and to reduce the expenditure. 2nd.' To reduce the Education Vote by £100,000. Brd. To foster the Volunteer Movement by increasing the capitation allowance £25,000. ! 4th. Tb return to the Original Land j Lands of New Zealand, and reduce the price of land to deferred payment I settlers, and thus establish them on the land instead of turning them off, as has been hitherto the policy of Mr Bolleston. " . 6th. To nationalize 10,000,000 acres of bur best land (which is Public Property), to he pleased in perpetuity, and to apply the funds to education, hospitals, asylums, charities,; and other public purposes, including lie payment of a portion of the interest on our loans. • 6th. To reduce taxation, and to distribute the incidence of taxation more equally amongst the rateable properties of the colony. 7th. To encourage all Local Industries, and to reduce the Bailway Tariff to last year's charges on Timber and Grain, and to put a stop to the misappropriation of public monies. Bth; I propose to complete the railway from Feilding to Auckland through the Oroua Valley, byforming a; company under the Bailway; Construction Act, and by which to make aprofit without pledging,; the public ctedit. . 9th. lam not 'adverse to separating Srom' the South Island; but w6uld not seek it without consulting: our public creditors, as I can show we will make a profit by dissolving partnership and get rid of the burden that has always handicapped the North liland. 10th.
