The Albion in a Storm
(PKB UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, This Day. The steamer Albion, from Sydney, about which some anxiety was expressed, arrived here yesterday afternoon. The Albion left Sydney on the 2nd June, and had fine weather until the 6th, when a heavy sea from the north-east was experienced during which the vessel laboured heavily. On Saturday, the 7lh inst., the pumps were sounded and ten inches of water was found in the forehold and two feet in the afterhold ; it was also discovered that all the pumps were completely chocked and would not work. At 4 o'clock the same afternoon all hands commenced bailing with buckets, but the water still gained, nad at 7 o'clock p.m. all the fires went out and the steamer was hove-to under canvas. On Monday, the 9th, the weather moderated and the water in the hold was considerably reduced. During the afternoon of the Oth the fires were relighted and the course resumed with one boiler, arriving as above.
