Gold-Bearing Quaitz from the Tuhua

♦ We were shown on Saturday evening a sample -of gold-bearing stone said to have been brought down the river by a native ; and fron inquiries we have made we believe the information to be reliable. There were eight pieces in all, and in each piece scold was plainly to be seen. The sample o( stone compares very favourably with that brought down by the prospecting: party. Everything tends to prove that the/c is a rich goldfieM in the Tuhun, country. Ihe mining expert sent from Reefton down to Ross to report on the stone there, gave it at his opinion that the mineral is a sure indication of gold-bearing stone in the vicinity The same mineral in the stone was thickly impregnated with the stone brought ilown by the prospectors from the Tuhua; and the tact of a slate country carrying quariz being known to exist, even supposing no specimens were ever seen from it, should, to any practical man, be sufficient guarantee of a grand field for enterprise. We hear also of other places much nearer to Wan^anni off-ring similar inducements ; and considering the state of the times, too much suer^y cann<t be shown in trying to develop these hidden resources. — Chronicle.
