Silk Culture
•——^ The following is a copy of a letter from the Under-Secretary, in reply tor the applu cation made by the Major |or v the (Jovernment to permit Mr Federtt t&ectnre in Feilding on the sUk indjM.try^ Wellington, 4th r !iiane;lßß4. . Sir,— lam directed bj Mrßalleaton to ackno^ledgftke receijpt?i£ybuT letter of the 23rd May, in which ypoafk that Mr Federii may be allowed to deliver two or three lectures upon the silk industry, Ac, in the neighborhood of Teilding. In reply I am to inform yoti that Mr Federii bai just returned home church after a lengthened tour in theNorth Island/ and Mr, RoUestog fears he will not be able at present to proceed t<> Feilding to lecture as you desire^ I hare the honor, £c., H. J. H. Eijjot, Under-Secretary.' His Worship the Mayor, Feilding. It is safe therefore to assnm^ that we Rire yp all hopes uf hearing Mr Federii lecture, unless the Borough goes to the expense of bringing him ap, which is very unlikely. Since we wrbteW the subject of silk culture we. have learned] that there are several famUies^on the Manchester Block who hare bjufcoonsiderable experience in the management of silkworms, and we are assured itat as soon as the proper mulberry trees are old enough they intend, to commence .again. As Mr Macarthar has sent -Home for the necessary seed, a rery few yeai* will suffice to enable the trees to be strong; enough to find food for the silkworm.
