(PEB UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Sydney, May 28. I The New Zealand footballers were accorded a hearty reception on landing yesterday from the steamship Hauroto. They play their first match to-day at Parramatta. whither they proceeded this morning by water, accompanied by their opponents, who are representatives of twenty local clubs. Later. The New Zealand football team opened their campaign at Parramatta to-day against the County of Cumberland team. Tne weather was fine, but the ground hard. At the close of the days play the New Zealanders had scored 33 points, and the home team none. The Parramatta team displayed poor play, but that of the New Zealande-'s was much, admired. Received May 29, 12.30 p.m. Sydney. This Day. In the match against County Cumberland yesterday the four goals for the New Zealanders were obtained by Ryan and W Y. Milton (captain), not Ryan and Helmore, as telegraphed yesterday. Milton obtained three out of four goals. Taiaroa particularly distinguished himself by brilliant play. The risitora were entertained at a dinner in the evening at Parramatta. An extra match has been arranged to take place in Sydney on June the 3rd.
