Homeward mails via Suez and Brindisi, dated, Melbourne April 10th, were delivered yesterday. London, May 19. Admiral Eichards will succeed Commod«r Erskine in command of the Australians station in June. Mr Osborne, Resident Commissoner of the Cape, is appealing to John Dunn for troops to assist in ropeiling the TJsutus. A powerful colonial bank has been formed at Hamburg. M. Ferry has announced that he proposes to largely curtail the powers of French Semite. The Standard believes that the bulk of shareholders of the Oriental Bank will be unable to meet the first call. The Eev. Andrew Douglas, of Arbroath, has resigned the appointment under the West Melbourne Presbytery, owing to the inquisitorial nature of the Church rules. Mr Douglas, of Ceylon, has been appointed joint liquidator in connection with winding up the financial affairs of the Oriental Bank. The followers of the rebel El Mahdi have captured 1000 head of cattle in the neighborhood of Souakim, and have pillaged the magazine at Abulhamid. The rebels are now advancing on Korosko. The English Government are arranging for the purchase of 1000 camels for service in Egypt. Several members of the House of Commons have signed a memorial in favor of the release of the Tichborne claimant, and urging that the man Oreswell, who is at present confined in the lunatic asylum at Parramatta, New South Wales, who is alleged to be indent ical with Authur Orton, should be brought to London.
