Kiwitea Road Board
A meeting of this Board was was held it the Manchester Road Board's office, feilding, yesterday afternoon. Present — Messrs Taylor (chairman), Williamson, md Saxon. Tho minutes of the previous meeting vere read, nnd after a slight alteration svere confirmed. Mr Saxon deprecated thenon-attendance )f Mr Bruce, and thought that although us name was down on the minutes as >resent at the last meeting notwithstanding that he came when the business was nearly over, he thought this was hardly "air, and he called attention to the matter, so that it might not occur again as tie didn't think a warden should claim to nave been present when he came towards the end of the meeting. The ceneral feeling of the Board was with Mr Saxon, and that each member should regard it as his duty to attend if possible. Some discussion followed as to whether it'was desirable to pass a resolution on the subject, but ultimately the matter dropped. *.' yf t * , 'iHy 1 ; 'Jlie-'folflr jfring correspondent was read : j-H. Permission was given to Mr Hughes to crept a gate as requested, to be removed when required on notice from the Board. It was agrrerl that, the present application oi Mr Mcßeth for a slaughtering licence was beyond the jurisdicton of the Board. Ifc was ag:ved that the chairman should sign the documents in the matter of the Board against the. Harbor Board. Mr Saxon brought forward the matter oi tue necessity of a road in a certain part of the Pohangina ward, and asked ihe Board's permission to spend a portion of tho rates for making llie same, the sottlers interested having offered to give a certain amount of time in assisting in lhe work. lie suggt^U-d that £30 be rxpended ns far us it would go, with the understanding that the settlers completed the work to the satisfaction of the tu'gineor. After discussion it was resolv«d, That the engineer be empowered to lay off work to the extent of £50 in continuation of Taonui road in the Pohangina ward. A large number of accounts were passed for payment, and the Board then adjourned.
