The Member for Rangitikei
Mb Jobs Stbvxvs, the member for Kangitikei, appears determined to use every fair and legitimate means to retain or secure the confidence of his constituents. The plan he has adopted of addressing them at all convenient oentros is an excellent one, as it gives him an opport unity of coming face to face with each and every one of them, and of explaining away difficulties which may have arisen from misconception or misrepresentation. That a large majority of electors are satisfied with Mr Stkvbits is shown by the votes of confidence accorded him at Marion, Bulls, and Cheltenham which may be considered the largest part of his district. His statement 'made at the Bulls, meeting that "so lonfe as he enjoyed the confidence of the electors it wonlchj^eiHup the greatest pleasure to represent tfrj^-Suid should there be a contested election and .99 candidates came'forward, he would come forward," was (says the Advocate) received with applause. We believe the good feeling that has been shown wherever Mr Ststens has as yet spoken to be that of a large majority, and it will take a good man to defeat him at the next election. The names of four other candidates are mentioned but as they, are not before the public, we .are 'not at liberty to canvass' their general merits.
