Sir J- Vogel's Candidature
[PEE UNITED PBE3S. ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, This Day. The following appears in the New Zealand Herald, in reply to the enquiry of Sir Julius Vogel by the editor as to his political intentions : — "Iu reply to your telegram, I have no intention of staying beyond a few months, and have no intention of forming any distinct parties. I came hero without nny thought of entering politics, but observing the existing difficultieß I thought my long experience in yew Zealand might be of some use in suggesting remedies and consolidating pirties. Hence, without the slightest desire to obtrude myself or revive old partizan feelings, I accepted the invitation of tht» East Coast electors, which was entirely spontaneous, and unsolicited by me." Gißß»bnb, This Day. At a pnblic meeting this morning, Mr lieea absolutely refused to retire, Haying any local man would have made more weight for tho district in the House than Sir J. Vogel, as it was notorious that the latter only desired to "go for" the Government. It is said that Vogel will now drop out, and the- three local men carry out tho contest.
