A Remarkable Cyclone
One of the most remarkable and tragic incidents of the cyclone which paused over the country near Day tor*, 0., recently, occurred near the end of its destructive career at a point near Xenia. Capt. Williuir Godfather, ex-Shi-riff of Greene County, while driving through the country near Xenia was overtaken by a heavy shower aud took shelter in a covered bridge. While he, was in the structure the cycloue came howling along and picking the bridge off its foundations carried it through the air a distance of 300 yards, and dropping it permitted it to :all a mnaa of broken timbers into the furioui wat.rs oi the swollen stream, l.'apt. Godfather.* horse was instantly killed aud his vehicle broken to tpliuters. A party of farm • hands who witnessed the flight of the bridge worked for halt au hour among the timbers and in the water, belore the unfortunate Captifft-'" could be round. When rescued, he was badly crushed under timbers and up to his neck in water. Hi_ head was held between .two timbers which suspended hin. ■in* the water and prevented his being drowned.
