Intelligence lias been ivceired here that the steamship State of Florida, tradi ing between Glasgow and America, which was several days overdue, came into ! collision with a barque in the Atlantic and sank almost immediately. Of 167 souls on board, only 44 were rescued by the barque, or saved in the steamer's boats. It has transpired that the Egyptian Government has sent a communication to the British Foreign Minister, in which it claims to have a voice in the deliberation at the projected conference of Egyptian affairs. The catalogue at to-day's wool sale comprised 10,900 bales. A firm and active demand was experienced. Her Majesty the Queen arrived at Windsor Castle from Darmstadt yesterday evening. Michael Pavitl explains that it his intention only to make an extended tour of the colonies. The Ceylon Government will guarantee the Oriental Bank currency in Ceylon. Thomas Hugh Shortland, an Australian barrister, has been arrested at Plymouth, charged with the murder of his wife, with whom he had been living until a recent date. It is announced that the Turkish Government is willing to adhere to the proposed European Conference, provided the whole Egyptian Question is discussed. The Porto urges that the conference should meet at Stambono. Cairo, May 9. The Egyptian Commanders of Dongola and Korosko, towns on the Nile to the north of Berber, hare sent communications to the authorities here, in which they express themselves as anxious for the safely of the towns. The Governnvnt has accordingly ordered reinforcements to be sent to strengthen the garrisons at both places.
