Failure of the Oriental Bank
• • BBTTTEB's TEI.EaBA.MB Melbourne. May 5. The doors of the local branch of the Oriental Bank were closed this morning, and considerable anxiety prevails. The Corporation is liable for £45.000 on note circulation in this colony, and for about £114,000 to other banks doing business in Sjdney. The Victorian Government has £150,000 on deposit with the Oriental Bank. Received May 6, 1.5 a.m. Melbourne, May 5. The Associated Banks have decided not to cash notes of the Oriental Bank Corin circalation in the colony. ▼ A petition has been lodged in the Supreme Court of Victoria for winding up the I cal affairs of the Oriental Bank Corporation.
