C)sm»n I 'irrna Has rallied a large force, and is eqcamped at Handouk. The latest information from Berber states thnt the troops stationed there are fraternising with the rebels. This action has caused great consternation among the residents, who are leaving the district in large numbers. Received May 1, 0.55 a.m. Caiho, April 29. Emboldened by the disaffection of the garrison at Berber, and the countenance which thpy are receiving fiom the Nubian rebel tribes, Osman Digneh, the representative of Mahdi in Eastern Soudan, is rapidly collecting supplies and men, and threatens that he will advance upon Assoujim, a horde- town of Egypt Proper, near the first cataract on the Nile. In view of the recent refusal of the British Government to dispatch an expedition into Soudan, the threats of the Arab chief are causing much uneasiness here.
