It is announced that MrChilder's pro posals, set forth in the Hudget last night, regarding the issue of new half sovereigns ! will not affect Australian coinage. In the House of Commons last night Lord Edmund Fitzruaurice, Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs, in reply to questions, stated that the Government is awaiting further communication from the French Government on the subject of the RecMivistes question, and that no negotiations had taken place with the German Government with reference to the trans* portation of French criminals to the I Pacific. LoNDO.v, April 24. It has transpired that a note has recently been addressed to the European Powers by the British Government suggesting that a conference should be held to consider the present state of Egyptian affairs. In their replies, sll the Powers have assented to the principal involved, and it is understood that a meeting of European plenipotentiaries will take place at an early date. The trial of the suspects who were arrested on charges of complicity in the murder of Mrs Henry J. Sniythe, and the attack upon Mr iiourbon Siuythe, and Lady Henrietta Monck, near EJllican, West Meath, on April 2, 1882, concluded to-day, when the five men were sentenced to ten years penal sevitude. On a division in the Hobs© of Commons on the Cattle Disease Bill, the Government were seriously defeated. The English Government assert that the position of Goidon Pasha is not critical, and they deny that he has requested troops to be sent to his assistance at Kartoum. The Pall Mall Gazette says that the undecided policy of the English Government, with regard to affairs in Egypt, will result in a war with France. Sir Evelyn Wood, with his army, is making preparations to relieve Berber, and will do so unless he is prohibited by the English Government. April 25. In the House of Commons to-night the Premier made a statement regarding the situation of affairs in the Soudan. Both the country and the Government, Mr Gladstone said, recognised that they were under an obligation to secure the future safely of General Gorton, aud Ministers were fully prepared to fulfil that obligation should occasion require it. ___ _____
